Schott is a Leo, Indiana, native who signed with Miami as a four-star recruit out of Leo High School. He was the No. 246 overall player and the No. 13 tight end in his class, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings. He had Indiana on his radar in high school but picked Miami over Ohio State before ultimately circling back home through the portal.
