Minneapolis ICE shooting live updates: State, cities file lawsuit to stop ICE's 'federal invasion'
The state of Minnesota and the cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul have filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security.
Mayor Jacob Frey and MPD Chief Brian O'Hara are set to speak. Watch below:
Some schools are closed on Friday due to ongoing ICE activity in the Twin Cities metro, meanwhile additional anti-ICE protests are planned Friday after the fatal shooting of Renee Good earlier this week.
Minnesota state officials urged the public to remain calm after a federal immigration agent shot and killed a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis.
A number of Trump officials have blamed Good for her own death, and vowed to redouble immigration enforcement efforts. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said “hundreds” more federal law enforcement agents will be deployed to Minnesota to protect its officers and continue immigration raids.
Tensions erupted in downtown Minneapolis overnight Friday into Saturday, as hundreds of protesters packed the streets over the killing of Renee Good, a mother of three who was fatally shot this week by an ICE agent involved with President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.
It inflames your nostrils. It’s a burning sensation in your chest,” Laura Coates said after ICE agents shot “pellets” at a crowd of protesters during a live report.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said Sunday there is “deep mistrust” in the objectivity of the federal government’s investigation into the shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good because Trump administration officials have already come to conclusions.
